Double Olympian and County Roscommon boxer, Aoife O’Rourke, has become a world boxing champion after winning the gold medal today in the 75kg final at the IABA World Boxing Championships in Liverpool.

It was a completely dominant performance over the three rounds from the Castlerea boxer against her Turkish opponent, Busra Isildar.

Setting the tone from the first bell, the Tarmon native took the first round on a 4-1 score after impressing four of the judges with her powerful shots and great footwork.

O'Rourke continued to overpower Isildar in the second round, winning it 4-1 again to take a significant lead in the contest.

Her dominance continued in the final round, taking the world title in style on a 5-0 unanimous decision.

The twenty-eight-year old is now a World champion, a World silver medallist, a four time European champion and a double Olympian.

O'Rourke was the only Irish boxer who made it to a final at this year's championships.

She now joins her sister Lisa - who won the world title in 2022 at 70kg - into the history books as a World boxing champion.
