Charity football match raises €15,197 for Hospice

A charity football match held in memory of Colm Doyle has raised €15,197.46 for Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation.

Colm, from Clongowna, Bealnamulla, was an avid footballer. He passed away at Roscommon Hospice in November 2025 at the age of 40. Following his passing, his friends from football, Sean Mangan and Brian O’Neill, suggested to his father, Gerry Doyle, that they organise a charity football match in his memory.

The fundraising event was held at Genex FC on May 9th and following the match a function and raffle were held at The Mill Bar, with music provided by Paddy Mullane.

All proceeds from the event went to Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation and the funds were recently presented to Roscommon Hospice.

The Doyle family said: “Colm played a lot of football so after his passing at the age of 40, his friends from football, Sean Mangan and Brian O’Neill suggested to Colm’s father, Gerry that they wanted to organise a charity football match in his memory.

“The family was delighted for this to take place, and it was decided to also run a function and a raffle after the match in the Mill Bar and donate all the funds raised to the Mayo Roscommon Hospice. 

"We will never be able to thank everyone enough who contributed in any way to the amazing success of both the football match and the evening event at the Mill Bar."

For over 30 years, Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation has been dedicated to providing palliative care services to people with life limiting illnesses and their families in counties Mayo and Roscommon. 

The palliative care teams have supported more than 25,000 patients and their families to date. Both Mayo Hospice and Roscommon Hospice were developed and paid for by fundraised income (a combined €15.3 million) and are a result of the great support received from the people of Mayo and Roscommon.
