Claimed Jobseeker’s Allowance while working

A man who obtained payment under the Jobseeker’s Allowance while being employed was fined €500 by Judge James Faughnan at Castlerea District Court.
David Kpelle, 4 Main St, Ballinagare, faced charges relating to a number of dates from May to November 2023.
Roscommon State Solicitor Kieran Madigan, who appeared on behalf of the Minister for Social Protection. told the court that €4,721 was outstanding. Only one payment of €200 was paid. Mr Kpelle tried to make a payment the week prior to the court but there was not enough money to meet it.
The judge imposed the €500 fine for the offence between May 31st and June 6th, 2023 and took all other charges into consideration.
