A man has been sentenced to 150 hours of community service in lieu of a three month prison sentence for assault at a Ballaghaderreen store.
Abid Hussain (35), with an address at Abbey Court, Frenchpark, appeared before Judge James Faughnan at a May sitting of Ballaghaderreen District Court, charged with assault causing harm, threatening to damage property, and engaging in threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour.
The charges relate to September 11th, 2024, at Ahmed Superstore, Ballaghaderreen, where the injured party informed gardaí he was attacked by the accused.
The man told gardaí that Mr Hussain had been shouting aggressively at him on the street over a number of weeks, including earlier that morning before an altercation ensued, resulting in Mr Hussain hitting the injured party.
Mr Hussain was arrested and admitted to the assault. He apologised in the presence of gardaí and shook the other man’s hand.
A suggested compensation of €2,000 was brought to court, with a favourable probation report also handed to Judge Faughnan.
Judge Faughnan noted the compensation sum and imposed a total of 150 hours of community service in lieu of three months in prison.
