A stretch of a major road in the county is to be closed from May until August, creating a significant diversion for traffic.
Roscommon County Council has announced its intention to close 1,600m of the N61 Tulsk to Boyle at Gortnacrannagh. The road will be closed from May 12th to August 18th and the reason for this closure is to facilitate the N5 Road Project.
The council said that the closure will start 200m south of the N61 Junction with the R369, to 200m north of the N61 Junction with the L-6117.
The local authority has proposed a diversion via the N5 at Tulsk, as far as Frenchpark, and then on to the R361 Boyle Road. There will also be a diversion via the R369 in both directions at Shankill Cross. The R369 from Bellanagare to Elphin is to remain open.

Objections to the proposed closure may be made in writing to the Roads and Transportation Department or e-mailed to roads@roscommoncoco.ie to arrive not later than 5pm on Friday, April 18th 2025.
