The mercury may have dropped in the last couple of days, but Failte Ireland has compiled a list of the best swimming hot spots around the country for a Christmas dip and among them is “a hidden gem” in County Roscommon.

Popular places like Bundoran in Donegal, and Salthill in Galway are on the list, but also included is a lesser known spot outside of Roscommon, Doon Shore in Boyle.

Fáilte Ireland has put together a list of ten of Ireland’s must-visit swimming spots to enjoy on a short break during the festive season or for your new year adventures.

According to Fáilte Ireland: “Doon Shore is one of Ireland’s ultimate hidden gems, and a perfect spot for winter swimming. This stunning swimming spot is treasured by the locals and is unknown to many tourists. Visitors can park up and enjoy swimming in the tranquil waters.”
