A County Roscommon school has paid tribute to “a remarkable teacher and a truly kind and gentle soul”.
Marie Mannion Doyle, St.Brendan’s, Ballygar passed away, peacefully following an illness, at Galway University Hospital on Friday surrounded by family and friends.
Marie was a teacher at St. Anne’s NS in Castlerea. Management at the school said: “All of the St Anne's school community are deeply saddened to hear the news of the passing of our beloved teacher Marie. Marie was a remarkable teacher and a truly kind and gentle soul. Those of us who were fortunate enough to know Marie, experienced not just a teacher, but a mentor, guide and a friend.
"Marie had a way of touching hearts and minds with quiet wisdom and unwavering patience. In the classroom, lessons went beyond textbooks- they were lessons in kindness, curiosity and understanding. Every student felt seen and valued. Every question was met with encouragement and every challenge was approached with gentle guidance. We extend our deepest sympathies to her family at this difficult time and will keep you all in our thoughts and prayers. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dilís.”

The Save Our SNAs Roscommon group extended “heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and the wider community of St. Anne's National School” on the passing of Marie. "At this difficult time, our thoughts are with her loved ones, colleagues and the school community who are grieving her loss,” said the group.
In Ballygar the “community has been enveloped in a cloud of sadness and shock at the untimely loss of another beautiful young person, Marie. Marie a wonderful friendly and kind lady left us after a brave battle with illness. The thoughts and prayers of our community are with your loving family, neighbours and many friends during these days of great sadness. Go raibh suaimhneas síoraí aici,” said a post on the Ballygar Banter Facebook page.
Predeceased by her mother, Josephine. Dearly loved wife of Denis and much-loved mother of Addison. Marie will also be sadly missed by her father, Eddie; sisters, Loretta and Geraldine; father-in-law, Michael, mother-in-law, Phil; brothers-in-law Padraig and Michael; sisters-in-law, Anne-Marie and Caroline; nephew Tommy; nieces, Mikayla, Chloe, Mia, Annie and Katie; uncles, aunts, relatives, neighbours and friends, R.I.P.
Reposing at Moran’s Funeral Home, Ballygar this evening Sunday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.. Removal from her father’s residence (Ballygar) on Monday afternoon to St. Mary’s Church, Ballygar for Funeral Mass at 2 o’clock with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
