Criminal damage to the playground in Ballaghaderreen has led to its temporary closure.
The damage has been condemned by local Independent councillor Michéal Frain.
He explained that Roscommon County Council unfortunately had to make the difficult decision to temporarily close the playground as a result.
“This is a health and safety closure, necessary to ensure that no child is put at risk while using the facility. It is extremely disappointing to see a community facility damaged in this way. Our children deserve a safe, clean and enjoyable place to play,” said the councillor.

Cllr Frain said he was working with the council to have the playground assessed as quickly as possible, the necessary repairs carried out, “and most importantly, reopened for our children.”
“I’ll keep everyone updated on progress and hopefully we can see the gates reopened very soon,” he said.
