The declaration of a public road within the Hillside housing development in Ballintubber was welcomed by councillors at the March meeting of the Roscommon Municipal District.
MD co-ordinator Tom McDermott said the council was satisfied that road was a required general public utility.
Independent councillor Michael Holland said he was delighted with the news as he said the Hillside housing development was “a busy spot and it came out onto a busy road”.
Independent Ireland councillor Nigel Dineen also welcomed the declaration, pointing out that there were a lot of houses in Hillside, which had been built since 2006.
Fine Gael councillor Ruth Conboy acknowledged the work of the community who had maintained the road voluntarily while Fianna Fáil councillor Paschal Fitzmaurice noted that the housing development had brought a lot of vibrancy to the village.
