Deep sadness at passing of local GAA stalwart

There is deep sadness at the passing of Ballaghaderreen GAA stalwart and former Garda, Jim Fleming.
Jim passed away peacefully yesterday, Tuesday, in the loving care of the staff at Mayo Hospice, Castlebar.
He served with An Garda Siochana for 35 years and moved to Ballaghaderreen in 1964.
Jim had a distinguished playing career with Mayo, his native Ardnaree Sarsfields in Ballina and Ballaghaderreen. He was appointed the Mayo GAA President in 2013 and served as chairperson of Ballaghaderreen GAA club for several years.
He was also a selector for the Mayo Senior Team in 1981 and served as President of the Mayo County Board in 2014 and 2015.
In a social media post, Ballaghaderreen GAA said it was with deep sadness that the club learned of the passing of Jim. “A native of Ardnaree, Jim was an extremely proud and dedicated Ballaghaderreen GAA clubman,” it said.
Beloved husband of Annie and father of Mairead, Cáitlín, Ciara, and Pat. He will be deeply missed by his loving grandchildren Franck, Fiona, Anne, Anna, Katie, Clara, Amelia, Molly, Grace, Méabh, Blaithín, Eadaoin, John, and David, along with his adored great-grandchildren Evie, Blanche, Henri, Louis, and Ivy, as well as his sons-in-law Dylan and Dermot and all his nieces and nephews.
He will be fondly remembered by his extended family and friends.
Jim will repose at his home in Knocknacunny, Ballaghaderreen on Thursday, March 20th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.. Removal for Requiem Mass at the Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Nathy, Ballaghaderreen on Friday, March 21st at 12 p.m..
