After 55 years of involvement with Tidy Towns, the chairperson of Ballintubber Tidy Towns has this evening resigned from her position.
"It is with a very heavy heart that I resign as chairperson of the Ballintubber Tidy Towns Committee," Eileen Kenny said in a social media post.
"Ballintubber has always been a close-knit community, dear to me and to the four generations of my Kenny family who served before me. I was fortunate to have the most wonderful hardworking parents who taught me to respect, serve, and support my community, and I have always tried my best to live by those values," said Eileen.
"Over the years, I have served on many local supportive committees and achieved much of which I am very proud. I want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who supported me throughout my Tidy Towns journey. It has been incredibly rewarding to win two national Tidy Towns Awards—silver and bronze medals — along with many commendation and endeavour awards, and most recently being awarded the gold medal this year. I was also delighted to have been apart of the two Pride of Place competitions, where we were successful in securing prizes on both occasions," she added.
She went on to say: "I would like to thank our local authorities and media, local businesses, clubs, and all organisations and individuals who supported us in achieving the standard the village holds today. I would also like to sincerely thank everyone who supported our fundraisers and donated generously down through the years.
"Most importantly, thank you for your kindness, support, and understanding for me at this time. I am truly overwhelmed and deeply appreciative.
"I have met many politically entertaining, and wonderful personalities throughout my Tidy Towns journey, some of whom I hope to include when I compile my book on the good times in Ballintubber and with Tidy Towns.
"On a final note, I would like to wish Ballintubber Tidy Towns every success in the future. Rest assured, I still remain in the heart of the community, serving my loyal customers and friends, always here with a listening ear. From the bottom of my heart, thank you to Ballintubber and the wider community," Eileen concluded.
