Family, faith, friends and farming were pillars of popular Roscommon man’s life

Family, faith, friends and farming formed the pillars of the late Séan Leydon’s life.

Mr Leydon of Goff Street, Roscommon Town and formerly Keadue, passed away peacefully on August 29th at the Galway Clinic, following a short illness, surrounded by his wife and family.

Former Roscommon Town parish priest Fr. John Cullen said that “family, faith, friends and farming formed Seán's entire life of quiet faithfulness and gentle dedication. Constans Hibernae Cor is the motto on the Roscommon coat of arms. It means Steadfast Irish Heart. This sums up who Seán was, is and will always be to those who knew him,” said Fr. Cullen.

Beloved husband of Ríona and loving father of Aisling, Aonghus, Máire, Toirealach, Nollaig, Seán Óg, Tomás and Ailbhe. Adored grandfather of Zara, Thomas, James, Ethan, Adam, Conor, Rónán, Jayne Catherine, William, Samuel, Aoife, Ciarán, Caoimhe, Oisín, Saoirse and Éabha. Deeply mourned by his sons-in-law, Tom, Paul, Eric and Owen; daughter-in-law, Iwona; Toirealach’s partner, Jim; his nephews, nieces, sisters-in-law, Mary, Anne and Gretta, cousins, neighbours and many good friends. Predeceased by his parents Mary Kate and John and by his sisters Alice and Tessie.

Reposing at Smyth’s Funeral Home, Roscommon (F42 NH27) on Monday from 4.30 p.m. until 6.30 p.m.. Removal from his home on Tuesday at 10.30 a.m. arriving to the Sacred Heart Church, Roscommon for Mass of the Resurrection at 11 a.m.. Burial afterwards in St Coman’s Cemetery.
