Two of Fine Gael's new candidates for next year's local elections, Robert McConn and Gareth Scahill.

Fine Gael has unveiled three new faces to run in next year’s local elections in County Roscommon.

Two well-known community activists Gareth Scahill from Castlerea and Robbie McConn from Athleague were formally ratified to run for the party in the Roscommon Municipal District at a Fine Gael candidate selection convention in Kilbride Community Centre last week.

A former Garda for more than thirty years, Mr McConn is particularly active in local sporting circles and is a director of Roscommon Racecourse while Mr Scahill is also a prominent community figure in Castlerea and a leading member of the local Town Team.

In the Boyle Municipal District, there will also be a new face on the party ticket following the formal selection of Dympna Daly-Finn from Arigna, alongside long-serving councillor Liam Callaghan. Both were ratified at a selection convention on Monday in An Bóthar Rua, Elphin.

Ms Daly Finn works with the HSE and will run alongside Cllr Callaghan, who was first elected to Roscommon County Council in 2009.

No date yet has been fixed for Fine Gael’s selection convention for the Athlone Municipal District where Cllr John Naughten is based. The South Roscommon farmer has served on the local authority for the last twenty years.
