A young man who appeared before Ballaghaderreen District Court was convicted and fined €500 for careless driving after admitting that he was at fault following a collision in Frenchpark.

Aaron Hastings, with an address at Sessue Commons, Cloonacool, County Sligo, was also before the court for having no insurance when the incident happened on August 2nd, 2024 at Portahard, Frenchpark.

The court heard that a collision caused slight damage to the two vehicles involved. Mr Hastings had admitted that the accident was his fault and fully co-operated.

Judge Vincent Deane was told that the other driver had been hit from behind when Mr Hastings “lost control”.

The accused’s solicitor explained that the road was “wet and slippery” at the time and his client didn’t appreciate the stopping time required.

The solicitor explained that his client thought he had insurance at the time but then found out otherwise. He said Mr Hastings has a full licence, which he needed for work.

Judge Deane convicted and fined him €500 on the reduced charge of careless driving. He also fined Hastings €100 for having no insurance but didn’t impose a disqualification because he needed his licence for work.
