Former RTÉ Midlands correspondent Ciaran Mullooly is in talks with the Independent Ireland about the possibility of running as a party candidate in this summer’s European elections, the Roscommon Herald understands.
A source close to the party confirmed to the Herald that it is in talks with Mr Mullooly but "no deal has been done yet”.
A well-known community activist and currently the Just Transition tourism activator with Longford County Council, the Lanesboro native retired from RTÉ in 2021 after 27 years of service.
Formed last November, the Independent Ireland party comprises three deputies, Roscommon-Galway Independent TD Michael Fitzmaurice, Michael Collins from Cork and Limerick’s Richard O'Donoghue.
