Funding not drawn down for Jamestown Arch
The inability to access an archaeological architect resulted in a local community council being unable to draw down funding for Jamestown Arch in the village.
The matter was raised at a recent meeting of Carrick-on-Shannon Municipal District when Councillor Maeve Reynolds asked: "What steps can be taken to preserve the Arch in Jamestown following its recent deterioration?”
She called on Leitrim County Council to take “a lead role in coordinating conservation measures, including the progression of appropriate maintenance and funding options, to safeguard this historic structure."
Cllr Reynolds said that there was just a small group dealing with the matter who needed help from the council.
She said there needed to be more help from the council to push the matter forward rather “than pushing it back on the community.”
