Funding of €200,000 for capital works at Castlerea Swimming Pool has been included in Roscommon County Council’s budget for 2025.

Funding of €200,000 for capital works at Castlerea Swimming Pool has been included in Roscommon County Council’s budget for 2025.

The budget was approved by councillors at a recent special meeting.

Cathaoirleach of Roscommon County Council, Cllr Paschal Fitzmaurice said he was delighted to see the additional funding for the Castlerea pool.

“This is something that I have been championing for a long time. That €200,000 is there for building a new toddler pool and also a new splash area. This is something I have been working with the council on,” he said.

He added that it was going to be a “fantastic” addition to Castlerea. “It is going to bring a lot of new visitors to the pool. It is a very exciting development for our outdoor heated pool,” he continued.

“Castlerea pool has seen huge improvements over the last number of years. We have great foot fall at the pool. It is very well supported, that is the important for our facilities.” 

According to the budget, €118,000 has been allocated for the maintenance and operation of Castlerea Swimming Pool in 2025 and to operate the pool for the 12-week summer season. This is an increase of €38,000.
