Funeral details announced for young army officer from Roscommon
The late Captain Philip Gilbert Muldowney (25).
The funeral details have been announced for Captain Philip Gilbert Muldowney (25) from Ballinameen who was killed in a British Army training incident in Northumbria on Sunday, January 25th.
Mr Muldowney served as a fire support team commander in the 4th Regiment Royal Artillery.
Removal will take place from his family home on Saturday, February 7th at 12.30 p.m. to St Attracta’s Church, Ballinameen, arriving at 12.45 p.m. for concelebrated Mass of the Resurrection at 1 p.m..
A former head student at Elphin Community College, he will be laid to rest afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
Mr Muldowney will be immeasurably mourned by his parents Meg and David, sisters Rachel and Kate, grandfather Fred, aunties, uncles, cousins, extended family, goddaughter Katie, a large circle of friends, and fellow brothers and sisters in arms.
The funeral notice stated: "On 25th January, 2026, fulfilling his duty and doing what he loved in Northumbria, England. Late of 129 (Dragon) Battery, 4th Regiment Royal Artillery."
