Garda investigation underway into West Roscommon fire

Gardaí are investigating all of the circumstances surrounding the extensive gorse fire, which occurred at Cloonmaul, Loughglynn/Gorthaganny on Sunday, May 18th

"The fire between Loughglynn and Gorthaganny was reported at around 2 p.m. and spread to nearby forestry plantations," said a Garda statement.

"The fire brigade attended the scene, as well as two helicopters carrying water from nearby lakes.

"The fire continued to spread throughout the evening and the L1241 between Ballyhaunis and Loughglynn was impassable for a time. There were no reports of any injuries or damage to houses.

"A technical examination of the scene was carried out by gardaí after the fire was extinguished.

"Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have information or noticed anything suspicious in the Cloonmaul area on Sunday,  May 18th to come forward," said the statememt.
