GE 2024: Fitzmaurice romps home on first count

Independent Ireland's Michael Fitzmaurice tops the poll in Roscommon-Galway.
Independent Ireland candidate Michael Fitzmaurice has romped home again on the first count to take the first of the three seats in Roscommon-Galway.
The Glinsk native exceeded the quota by more than 1,700 votes to top the poll for the second successive election. Those surplus votes will now be distributed.
Outgoing Sinn Fein Deputy Claire Kerrane and Fianna Fail candidate, Dr. Martin Daly, on 8,039 and 7,283 respectively, are also primed to take the second and third seat, although it is unclear yet what order that will be.
