Well-known local doctor, Martin Daly, is putting his name forward to contest the forthcoming general election for Fianna Fáil.
This evening at a party meeting in Roscommon Town, Dr Daly, who is a GP based in Ballygar, announced that he will be seeking to contest the convention for Fianna Fáil.
Dr Daly is a former president of the Irish Medical Organisation and is an advocate to protect rural patients' access to GP practices. A team doctor with Roscommon GAA, he also ran for the Seanad as an independent in 2016.
The race for FF’s nomination for Roscommon-Galway is certain to draw great interest. While the party's convention has yet to be fixed, the presumptive candidate is Senator Eugene Murphy, who held a Dáil seat for the party between 2016 and 2020.
It is expected that the party’s convention will be held before the end of the month.
