Heritage Week talk will explore ‘Who Shot Queen Medb?’

The event is part of Heritage Week.
The age old question of ‘Who Shot Queen Medb?’ will be examined this Thursday in a fascinating talk by Mike McCarthy of Rathcroghan Visitor Centre.
The talk, which is part of Heritage Week and is suitable for children aged 12 and over, will take place at Roscommon Arts Centre at 8pm on Thursday night.
Why not leave Netflix aside and journey back in time to prehistoric Iron Age Rathcroghan to share in an evening of storytelling recounting some of the oldest tales in Roscommon and Ireland.
Hear firsthand about the origins of Queen Medb and her great cattle raid to Ulster, which features a host of legendary characters such as the boy hero Cúchulainn, the Connacht warrior Fráoch and immortals of the Otherworld including the vengeful Macha and the formidable battle goddess, Mórrígán, who dwells in the Cave of Cruachán, Ireland’s reputed ‘Gate to Hell’.
Mike McCarthy has worked for over 10 years as a Tour Guide, Research Assistant and Deputy Manager of the Rathcroghan Visitor Centre and has been re-telling the story of Queen Medb in halls, lecture theatres and on top of ancient raths for years.
He is the co-author of numerous publications including SlíSeandálaíochta Ráth Cruachan – the Rathcroghan Archaeological trail and Rathcroghan – The Guidebook.
