Hundreds take part in local road race

The hugely popular race celebrated its tenth anniversary this year.

Almost 500 people took part in the Roscommon Harrier’s 10 Mile Road Race over the weekend.

The local athletic club celebrated the hugely popular event’s tenth anniversary. The soldout race attracted participants from all over the county and beyond and was generously supported by a number of local businesses and organisations. Ros FM was also broadcasting live from the scene.

Hundreds of runners and spectators gathered at Hannon’s Hotel before the 11 am start time, and the picturesque course took in Derrydonnell Forest on the closing miles home.

The first man home was Hugh Armstrong of Ballina AC with a tremendous time of 0:49:28. The fastest woman was Ann Marie McGlynn of Strabane AC with 0:56:39, another brilliant time.

The event was very well stewarded by volunteers and local Gardaí and the Civil Defence were also present.
