Roscommon Leisure Centre, located in the heart of Roscommon Town, has undergone improvements works. Last week Cllrs Orla Leyden, Kathleen Shanagher, Nigel Dineen, Anthony Waldron from the Roscommon Municipal District were given a tour of the facility and shown the improvement works by the centre manager, Sharon Ryan accompanied by Roscommon County Council’s Chief Executive Shane Tiernan and Head of Finance, Sean Mullarkey.
For the sixth year in a row, the leisure centre has achieved the ‘Outstanding Award’ in the National Quality Standard Awards under ‘Ireland Active’, the governing body of Leisure, Health, and Fitness Industries in Ireland.
The facility was closed June as the pool underwent considerable maintenance. Improvements to the changing area, showers and toilets were completed with the main body of work involving stripping and retiling the pool deck.
In addition to the works to the swimming pool, the centre’s gym changing floors were also retiled and automated doors installed. The redevelopment also saw the installation of new lockers, benches and vanity units for pool and gym users.
Central to the success of the project was the attention to detail by the tiling contractor for the project, local man Sean Hoban from Ballintubber (SHL Ltd).
Manager of Roscommon Leisure Centre Sharon Ryan said the works undertaken to date and in the future would ensure the centre was focused on providing the most professional and quality service for its service users.
The elected members acknowledged the grant aid secured from the Department of Rural and Community Development under the Community Recognition Fund to fund part of the works.
