Information sought by county councillor on solar and wind farms applications

Information on the number of solar and wind farms planned for the South Roscommon area was sought by Cllr Valerie Duffy.

Information on the number of solar and wind farms planned for the South Roscommon area has been sought by Cllr Valerie Duffy.

At a meeting of the Athlone Municipal District, the Fine Gael councillor asked the executive for information on the number, planning, and delivery timeframes for all solar farms and wind farms in the South Roscommon area as agreed by either the council or An Coimisiún Pleanála.

In response, the council said that timelines for the delivery of projects were not stipulated in the planning permissions.

It added that while applicants may have given indications of intended construction timescales, “they are not bound by such indicative information”.

They are at liberty to progress the development at any stage within the period of the planning permission, subject to compliance with pre-commencement conditions.
