Investigations ongoing into boxing tournament attack

Investigations are ongoing into the shocking attack in the county during an All-Ireland boxing tournament in March.

According to Gardaí, a man aged in his 20s was arrested on May 8th in relation to this incident, and was later released without charge pending a file to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Day one of the quarter finals of the 2024 National Boy/Girl 4 Championships were underway at The Hub in Castlerea on Friday evening, March 1st when the incident broke out between a number of men at the back of the venue.

Video footage showed a number of men, some in balaclavas, engaged in the incident as spectators and young people ran for cover. One man was "seriously injured" in the incident and was taken to hospital.
