The late Kitty Lavin.

Eighty-nine-year-old Kitty Lavin, who died following a road tragedy in Frenchpark on Thursday, was remembered for her love of family, her deep faith and her “quick mind” at her Funeral Mass today, Monday

Born on February 16th, 1936, Mrs Lavin (née Lane) was from Mullen, Frenchpark, and formerly of Ardikellan, Strokestown.

At her Funeral Mass in St Asicus’ Church, Frenchpark, Fr Micheál Donnelly told mourners that Kitty may have been in her ninetieth year but her “quick mind” was a lot younger.

He described how she loved her family and noted that she was a woman of deep faith.

“Kitty lived in the best way she could, bringing hope, bringing love, bringing goodness to so many. Now she can rest in peace, her work is done,” said Fr. Donnelly.

During the Mass, symbols of her life were brought to the altar: a copy of the Roscommon Herald, which "Kitty read from cover to cover every week, keeping up with the latest news”; a sod of turf – “she saved the turf every year for the range in the heart of the kitchen", and her car keys, representing “her independence which she loved”.

Other symbols brought to the altar included her mobile phone, which allowed her to keep in constant contact with family and friends; her rosary beads, representing her deep faith and a photograph of Kitty and her family whom she dearly loved.

Kitty was laid to rest this afternoon in Cloonshanville Cemetery following Funeral Mass in St Asicus Church.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Michael; her parents, Elizabeth and Pat Lane; sister, Ettie and brother Martin.

Kitty is sadly missed and remembered with love by her heartbroken family, her sons, Pat and Gerry; her daughter, Martina Langan (Ballymote); her adored grandson, Michael; son-in-law, Tommy; daughter-in-law, Yvonne; Pat's partner, Anne; sisters, Mai and Breege; brothers, Ed and Micheál; brother-in-law, Pat Beirne; sister-in-law, Linda Lane; nephews, nieces, extended family, neighbours and many friends.
