Triathlon Ireland’s ‘Race of the Year’, the Two Provinces Triathlon, takes place on Friday 10th and Saturday 11th July.

Once again, the race has been selected by Triathlon Ireland to host the 2065 Sprint National Championship. This prestigious appointment, where Ireland’s national sprint champions will be crowned, is a testament to the dedication of the club, supporters, and marshals who ensure the event's annual success.

Established in 2010 by Lanesboro Triathlon Club, the Two Provinces Triathlon has earned its place as a long-standing event on the Triathlon Ireland National Series, the nation's premier triathlon league. Year after year, it attracts participants from every region of Ireland and is consistently recognised as one of the best organised and most enjoyable events on the calendar.

Race Director Andrée Gallagher paid a special tribute to the support received locally.

“The continued success of this race is due in no small part to the phenomenal backing of the Lanesboro, Ballyleague, and Cloontuskert communities,” she said. “It is their tireless support combined with the dedication and passion of the members of Lanesboro Triathlon Club that transforms this event into a resounding success. The remarkable mobilisation of up to 200 marshals each year is a testament to our local community commitment to ensuring a safe and exceptional experience for every triathlete.” The race's significant progress and expansion are a direct result of the generous and ongoing support from longstanding sponsors Cooney Homevalue Hardware and Bord Na Móna while Hastings Insurance have come on board in 2026 with their sponsorship of water bottles for each athlete.

Additionally, grants from Longford Tourism alongside the generous support from local sponsors have been essential. Without their collective assistance, the event would not have achieved its current level of success, the organisers said.

Furthermore, 100 junior triathletes will compete in the Friday evening Kidathon while 700 triathletes will swim, cycle and run the Two Provinces on Saturday.

Road closures will be in place – see Two Provinces social media and Roscommon County Council for details.
