The proposed development is on a 15 acre site near Castlerea.

Plans for a large solar farm near Castlerea, comprising more than 8,000 solar panels, have been lodged with Roscommon County Council.

The proposed development is on a 15 acre site at Ardass, located about 2km northeast of Castlerea town.

According to the applicant, the 3.5 MW solar farm, which has a proposed operational lifespan of 40 years, will make a tangible contribution to both national and regional renewable electricity targets.

The project involves installing ground-mounted solar PV panels on steel support structures with a planned connection to the existing Castlerea 38kV Substation.

County planners are due to make a decision on the development, which is currently at pre-validation stage, in early December.
