Local Gardaí investigating alleged assault

Gardaí are investigating an alleged assault in Athlone in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The incident is reported to have occurred in the Ashdale area of the town at approximately 1.30 a.m..

A man in his 20s was taken to the Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore for non-life-threatening injuries.

It is understood that the victim received a large wound to the side of his face.

Investigations are ongoing.
