Local gardaí make major suspected drug seizure

Local gardaí have made a major seizure of suspected drugs in the county in recent days.

In a statement this morning, gardaí said that as part of ongoing investigations into the activities of an organised crime group based in Sligo, they conducted an operation over the weekend.

“As part of the operation, Gardaí from the Sligo/Leitrim Crime Functional Area, supported by the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, stopped and searched a vehicle in Carrick-on-Shannon, County Leitrim and one in Keadue, County Roscommon,” the statement said. “Suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of €100,000 was seized and two people were arrested. The man, aged in his 40s, and the woman, in her 50s, are being detained at a station in the Garda North Western Region under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007.”

The drugs will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis and investigations are ongoing.
