Local psychiatric nurses vote overwhelmingly for industrial action

Local members of the Psychiatric Nurses Association (PNA) have voted overwhelmingly to take industrial action.
The ballot result was 98.4% in favour of taking industrial action. The vote took place from Tuesday, 4th August and ran until Tuesday, 25th August. The Galway and Roscommon PNA Branches are meeting Thursday evening to decide the follow-up action in light of the ballot result.
The decision to take industrial action followed an extraordinary general meeting where members voted overwhelmingly in favour of a motion of no confidence in the area director of nursing.
The industrial action ballot, which covered nursing staff across Galway and Roscommon and Mental Health Intellectual Disability Services, came after more than two years of industrial relations non-engagement by local HSE management, the union said.
In a statement last month, PNA Industrial Relations Officer Niall O’Sullivan said its members in the counties have reached a tipping point.
