A major energy upgrade of the Plunkett Nursing Home in Boyle is being planned by the Health Service Executive (HSE).

A contractor is currently being sought to carry out the works which are expected to take approximately 12 months.

A recently advertised tender by the HSE outlined the extent of the works required on the nursing home, which opened in 1971.

The scope includes cavity insulation to existing cavity wall construction, attic insulation upgrades, and the installation of air source heat pumps to replace an existing oil-fired boiler plant.

Other planned works include the construction of a sub-station to ensure reliable power supply for the facility, and the reconfiguration of the service yard to accommodate the heat pumps.

To support Ireland’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality in all public sector buildings by 2050, the HSE is assessing and retrofitting estates across four regions.

Through the Pathfinder initiative, a multidisciplinary design team has been appointed to evaluate the Plunkett Home and the adjacent training centre.

The time-limit for receipt of tenders or requests to participate in this tender process expired on April 29th.
