Major safety works are being planned at the N61-N4 junction in Boyle.

Major safety works planned for busy Boyle junction A major road safety scheme is being planned at the N61-N4 junction in Boyle, which will involve some significant changes for motorists.

Roscommon County Council wants to address current safety concerns at this busy location and central to the plan is the installation of a channelising island on the N61.

This island will narrow the exit lane on the N61 and help regulate vehicle movements through the junction. New signage and road markings will also be installed to raise awareness of the junction.

In a significant change for motorists, Roscommon County Council also propose to close the left turning lane on the N4 westbound at this junction while installing a one-way cycle lane to allow cyclists merge from the N4 to the N61 and vice versa.

Construction works associated with the project will involve site clearance, installation of channelising islands and the delivery of a one-way cycle track between the N61 and N4, alongside a range of ancillary upgrades.

These will include the provision of kerbing, street lighting, high-friction road surfacing, traffic signs and road markings.

Plans and Particulars of the proposed development may be inspected for a period of four weeks at the offices of Roscommon County Council, Áras an Chontae, Roscommon Town.

Plans and particulars may also be viewed online.

Submissions or observations in relation to the proposed development may be made on or before June 23rd 2026.
