Major upgrade to Boyle train station opened
Boyle Station following the completion of accessibility upgrade works by Iarnród Éireann.
A major accessibility upgrade has been completed at Boyle train Station which includes a new footbridge and lifts.
The works were carried out as part of Iarnród Éireann’s ongoing Accessibility Programme and funded by the Department of Transport through the National Transport Authority.
The station upgrades took place over the past year and include a new footbridge over the railway, with two 13 person lifts, remedial works to platform 1 & 2 and a redesign and marking of existing accessible car parking spaces adjacent to the station building.
Station lighting adjacent to the station building and new footbridge has been upgraded while there are also improvements to accessible wayfinding signage and installation of tactile signage; including a tactile map at the station entrance.
The works further include the provision of help points and induction loops, connecting to the existing public address system and significant upgrade to the toilet facilities.
Iarnrod Éireann's said the works are part of an ongoing investment programme to continuously improve accessibility of its stations and services. The company's Disability Users Group provides direct input from disability representative bodies and users of rail services in developing accessibility programmes and projects.
In addition to Boyle, accessibility works have recently been completed at Athy and Rathmore with work ongoing at Claremorris, Dromod and Longford stations.
Speaking at the official opening yesterday, Programme Manager for Iarnród Éireann's Accessibility Programme, Colin Grimes said: “We are proud to be here today at Boyle Station to officially open the footbridge and provide improved accessibility to the many customers who use our services. I would like to thank all of the project team and our contractors who have done an excellent job in delivering this project”.
