Road diversions are in place following a fatal collision in County Longford.

A man in his 30s has died in a single vehicle road traffic collision in County Longford.

Gardaí are investigating the fatal single-vehicle road traffic collision that occurred in the early hours of this morning, Monday  July 8th at Ballymahon, County Longford. The collision occurred at approximately 12.45 a.m. on the N55.

The driver of the car, a man aged in his 30s, was treated by emergency services at the scene but later passed away. His body was taken to the Midland Regional Hospital, Mullingar where a post-mortem will take place in due course.

The road remains closed this morning with an examination by Forensic Collision Investigators currently underway. Local diversions remain in place.  Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area at the time of the collision are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
