A man who produced a long pole during the course of a violent disorder incident five years ago, is due to reappear in November for sentencing at Roscommon Circuit Court.
Gavin Cooper (28), with an address at Marion Court, Ballaghaderreen was sent forward for trial from the district court last month, charged with three counts on the indictment.
Those charges relate to a violent disorder incident on June 30th, 2021, at Coilte Bo, Loughglynn, during which it was alleged he produced a sledge hammer and a long pole, both weapons capable of inflicting serious injury.
When he appeared before Judge Kenneth Connolly at Roscommon Circuit Court, he entered a guilty plea on a full facts basis to the charge of violent disorder and to the production of the long pole during the course of the dispute.
Judge Connolly was invited to take the sledge hammer charge into consideration in due course.
Patrick O’Sullivan BL, defending, told the court that his client hasn’t come to the attention of An Garda Síochána since this event in 2021 and requested a probation report.
Judge Connolly, noting the plea of guilty to two of the three charges, remanded Mr Cooper on continuing bail to November 3rd for sentence.
He requested a pre-sanctioned probation and welfare report which he directed should include an assessment of suitability for Community Service, “if that should arise”.
