A highly successful memorial tractor and vintage run in Strokestown, celebrating the 60th birthday of the late Mick Kelly (Mad Mick), has raised €26,600 for two charities, Kiltrustan Heartsafe and Strokestown Children’s playground.

The wide streets of Strokestown were the starting point for the memorial tractor and vintage run.

From early morning tractors of all types, sizes, colours and ages gathered, registered and parked on Church Street, as the sun shone on a festive atmosphere. Drivers gathered, enjoying the camaraderie while the ‘Last Chancers’ entertained the spectators who gathered to see the 160+ tractors which were parked up ready to drive, Shortly before take-off, family and friends of Mick released balloons as his birthday was remembered, The run left Strokestown out to Scramogue, across Ballyfeeney, then headed to Tubberpatrick and through Borefield past Mick’s home before turning back into Strokestown accompanied by Donal Power and Ollie Reynolds on bikes, Later in the afternoon celebrations continued in Beirne’s Bar in Strokestown, where a fun filled atmosphere prevailed with music in the lounge with Dublin based radio presenter Gerry Cooley. Outside in the marquee, Tom and Mark Cox held an auction where in excess of 60 lots were sold.

Following this ‘The Rough and Ready Band’ took to the stage and entertained the lively crowd, The committee was delighted with the day as it benefits local organisations Kiltrustan Heartsafe and Strokestown Children’s playground.
