The motorist was clocked driving at 117km/h in an 80km/h zone.

A motorist was clocked driving at 117km/h in an 80km/h zone on the R364, Ballyglass South, Williamstown on Saturday during a Garda Roads Policing operation.

Throughout this weekend's roads policing operation, gardaí are conducting both statutory mandatory intoxicant testing and regular, high-visibility policing checkpoints.

In excess of 2,250 drivers were detected for speeding offences nationally for the first three days of the operation and a total of 92 people were arrested for driving under the influence of an intoxicant (alcohol and drugs).

As part of the operation the motorist at Ballyglass South, Williamstown was clocked driving at 117km/h in an 80km/h zone on the R364.

During the period, more than 270 drivers nationally were detected holding a mobile phone or not wearing a seatbelt.

An Garda Síochána and the Road Safety Authority are urging all road users to support their efforts to keep them and all others on the roads safe this June Bank Holiday weekend.
