Mary O'Grady passed away in December 2021.

Athlone Rowing Club has honoured the memory of a much loved and missed South Roscommon woman.

Mary O'Grady (née Kenny), Newtown, Carrowmurragh, Kiltoom, passed away in December 2021. She and her family were hugely involved in the life of the club.

Yesterday the club gathered to name and bless a boat in honour of Mary, and it thanked Deacon Tony Larkin for his support and help.

“Mary and her family have been a big part of our club over the years — her children, Anna, Martin, Cathal and Darragh all rowed here, and Anna still rows with us today,” the club said. “It was lovely to have Mary’s husband, Declan, along with Anna, Martin, and other family members join us for this occasion.

“We’re honoured to have the Mary O’Grady on the water with us.”
