The installation of toilet facilities at the quay in Drumsna for the use of people navigating the River Shannon was called for by Independent Councillor Irene Guckian Rabbitte at a meeting of Carrick-on-Shannon Municipal District.
The councillor has asked Leitrim County Council to write to Waterways Ireland to make the request.
She said that a lot of people are using the waterways but the only facilities are at Dromod and Carrick.
She was supported by Independent Councillor Enda Stenson who agreed that there was a need for some facilities in the village.
Fianna Fail Councillor Sean McGowan said he had been calling for the installation of toilets “for a long number of years. Please god we will get it over the line.”
