Irish Rail has installed new train detection warning systems at a level crossing near Donamon.

The systems have been installed at the level crossing near Slieve and Corbally, Donamon on the Athlone to Westport Railway line.

Warning signs displayed at the crossing feature a simple colour-coded system. A red signal indicates ‘Do Not Cross’, while an orange signal advises users to ‘Cross With Caution’.

Irish Rail explained that the objective of these systems is to provide level crossing users with improved information about the approach of trains, and to assist with user's determination of when it is not safe to cross.

These systems are to become operational this week.
