A controversial planning application for IPAS accommodation in Roscommon Town is still being considered by An Coimisiún Pleanála. The application had been due for a decision by December 23rd last.

Lodged with the planning regulator on April 14th, 2025, the applicant is seeking permission to avail of a 'Class 20F Exemption' to accommodate people seeking international protection at Academy House, Goff Street, Roscommon.

This exemption allows the temporary use of certain structures for accommodating or supporting persons seeking international protection. Last July the Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration said that it was not considering the offer for accommodation in the county town. Roscommon County Council also turned down the planning application.

When contacted last week, a spokesperson for An Coimisiún Pleanála said the case file is currently with the planning inspector for a report and recommendation.

“Once received, the case file will be forwarded to the planning commissioners for decision, and a copy of the decision will issue to all parties once decided," said the spokesperson.
