Principal Ms. Hannon and Deputy Principal Michael Lyons present Leaving Cert results to, L-R, Eimhin Farrell, Matthew Heneghan and Gabriel Klava- Brito.

Ms. Hazel Hannon, Principal of Lanesboro Community College has stated she is “overjoyed and exceptionally proud” of the school’s Leaving Certificate students.

The Principal stated that the group of 34 students which included two international students had shown an admirable work ethic which had shown in their results.

“We are overjoyed and exceptionally proud of all our Leaving Cert students. The vast majority came into the school where they were welcomed by the student support team, and we had refreshments for them and their families. The vast majority came in to receive their results this morning despite being able to access them on the portal. It was lovely to be able to celebrate with them as a whole school community.

“They are all going different avenues so from university, to apprenticeships to the world of work. We are all very proud and we wish them well in their endeavours in the future,” Ms Hannon noted.

The Lanesboro Community College Principal praised the school staff for their support towards this group of Leaving Cert throughout their second level academic journey.

“We need to acknowledge the hard work of staff who go above and beyond. With classes prior to school, at evening time after school and even online tuition that was available to them to help them prepare for their exams aswell.

It is a whole school community effort. We have great support from the parent’s council and the board of management. The entire community rallied around them and having that support network was certainly a contributing part of that success,” Ms. Hannon explained.

The school Principal stated that the school’s closeness with TUS Athlone both in terms of distance and communication with regards to courses available to study was important for this group of Leaving Cert students.

This Lanesboro Community College Leaving Cert group of 2023/24 sat over 20 subjects between them. The school offered the core subjects of English, Irish and Mathematics while also offering subjects including applied maths and Latvian.

Ms. Hannon stated the school would be there to support students even after receiving their results.

“We had very high scores across the board. In the humanities, the sciences and the practical areas. I have been here for the past three years and without a doubt we had more students in this year than any previous.

“The opportunity to connect with the school community when you receive your results is really important and to be there to support them in their decision making over the next while. We have a guidance team in place, a school chaplain, a home school liaison officer. All of those supports are really important for students when they make big decisions in the coming days and weeks,” she concluded.
