"Uisce Éireann is delighted to confirm that we are in design works to deliver a €30m water treatment plant upgrade to our existing plant in Carrick-on-Shannon, supplying homes and businesses across South Leitrim," a spokesperson for Uisce Éireann told the Roscommon Herald.

"This significant upgrade will increase production capacity at the plant by approximately 70% to cater for the additional growth projections.

"These upgrade works are subject to design, statutory approvals and land acquisition. It is estimated that these works will have a completion timeframe of 2030/31. Uisce Éireann will carry out interim works on an ongoing basis to improve capacity," said the spokesperson.

"We are committed to playing our part in the national drive to provide homes to people who need them by developing and prioritising delivery of key water service infrastructure and connections."
