Poor weather has cancelled Thursday’s flights at the Irish Hot Air Ballooning Championships at Lough Key Forest Park, Boyle.
Following the decision to “no fly” on Thursday morning, organisers have already called a halt to Thursday evening’s scheduled programme.
“Unfortunately, the wind/rain forecast for this evening means a NO FLY decision has already been taken for the safety of all our pilots and crew.
“The forecast speeds are way above our limits so even with the possibility of a slight reduction to what is forecast, gusts of 20+ knots with rain due to be in the area means we must unfortunately stay on the ground this evening,” organisers said in a statement.
The North Roscommon skyline has been decorated with some stunning images of the balloons traversing across the countryside in recent days, causing great excitement locally among young and old.
No decision has been made regarding Friday's morning and afternoon flights.
