Psychiatric Nurses Association defers local industrial action
The pyschiatric unit is located to the rear of Roscommon Hospital.
The Psychiatric Nurses Association (PNA) has agreed to temporarily defer the start of its industrial action across Galway Roscommon Mental Health Services.
The action was due to get underway tomorrow, but has now been deferred until October 15th following an initial Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) conciliation hearing with HSE management.
The move follows an overwhelming ballot mandate for industrial action and an overwhelming vote of no confidence passed by branch delegates representing nursing staff across Galway, Roscommon, Ballinasloe, CAMHS, St Brigid’s, and Mental Health Intellectual Disability (MHID) Services.
“The talks addressed a comprehensive list of disputes stemming from more than two years of industrial relations non-engagement and contested practices,” the union said.
A further WRC hearing has been scheduled for Thursday, October 8th, in Ballinasloe, where further talks will take place to address the outstanding areas of dispute.
PNA Industrial Relations Officer Niall O’Sullivan said:
"To facilitate constructive engagement and give HSE management the opportunity to deliver concrete outcomes on these commitments, our branches have agreed to defer the industrial action until 15th October. However, our mandate remains fully live and active. Meaningful solutions must now follow on the ground.
"Our members have shown extraordinary patience over the last two years. While yesterday’s talks opened the door to progress, the most substantial issues—particularly those impacting clinical governance, service structures, and patient safety—remain on the table for 8th October. If tangible resolutions are not secured, our members are fully prepared to proceed with industrial action on the 15th October."
