PV (photovoltaic) panels recently installed at Castlerea Swimming Pool are delivering “tangible results”, according to a local councillor.

Fianna Fáil councillor Paschal Fitzmaurice pointed out at last month's council meeting that the local authority had recently put in the PV panels at the pool with funding assistance from the Community Recognition Fund.

“When we are talking about tangible results…I have the app on my phone and in one week, it has saved €80 on electricity. It has produced €80 in electricity in one week which is fed back into the grid. The pool is open for two or three months in the year but it will be producing electricity all year round. That’s something very positive,” he said.

Cllr Fitzmaurice said he had been sceptical of the panels “but I have to say now that they are giving great results.”
