Ramps are the only deterrent to speeding, according to Independent Councillor Laurence Fallon.

During the June meeting of the council, a lengthy discussion took place on the benefits of speed ramps.

The independent councillor said that there was no doubt ramps were the only deterrent to speeding.

A “tremendous” road resurfacing job was done in the village of Rahara, he continued.

“We put in flashing speed signs, everyone slowed down for about ten days,” he said. “And then they lost vision of the speed. Speed ramps are a solution outside schools and in certain other places, but not everywhere.”

He said that on any road where ramps could be installed, a programme of works should be drawn up to install a number every year.

Cllr Tony Ward also voiced his support for ramps.

“I was never really in favour of ramps but I have come around to them in the interest of road safety,” he said.
