Recount in Boyle LEA continuing this evening

A full recount in the Boyle Local Electoral Area, which began at midday today, is continuing this evening.

The recount took place following a request from Fine Gael candidate Dympna Daly-Finn during the battle to fill the sixth and final seat involving her party colleague, outgoing councillor Liam Callaghan, and Paul Forde of Independent Ireland.

After the eight count in the early hours of Sunday morning, just three votes separated outgoing councillor Liam Callaghan on 995 votes and newcomer Dympna Daly-Flynn on 992.

By that stage, outgoing Independent candidate Valerie Byrne, Sinn Fein newcomer Leah Cull and Independent candidate Micheal had taken the first three seats.

The fourth and fifth seats in the Boyle Electoral Area looked destined for Fianna Fail newcomer Sean Moylan and Independent councillor Tom Crosby.
